Are Remasters Even Worth It and Do They Matter?

Remasters are now the current games for PS4, Xbox One, and I think the Wii U. But are they even worth it? This is what I think, remastered game are kind a not worth it, but its for people who never played a game they missed or they didn’t own a console. Remasters are just games from 360 and PS3 but with updated visuals. Almost all of the library on the PS4 and Xbox One are remasters, examples? Borderlands: The Handsome Collection, Sleeping Dogs: Definitive Edition, Dishonored: Definitive Edition, Saints Row IV: Re-Elected, Darksiders II: Deathinitive Edition, Dead Island: Definitive Collection, DmC Devil May Cry: Definitive Edition, Devil May Cry 4: Special Edition, God of War III Remastered, etc. etc. Remasters are games from last gen with updated visuals and all DLC, it’s also for people who missed a game. But here’s what I think, If there’s a remaster for the PS4 and Xbox One, buy the original, for the 360 and PS3. Remasters are kind a not worth it, but its for people who never played it before or they missed it.

  1. As someone who owns a few remasters, I can say it’s a double edged sword.

For starters, not many people get to experience the games that were released back then and game developers and publishers sometimes want to update games and bring them to the current generation.

Some remasters do it splendidly while others for one reason or another crash and burn. Some examples I can mention are the Kingdom Hearts HD Remixes for PS3. 1.5 and 2.5 are just splendid compilations that provide a lot for your money’s worth.

Other compilations however feel as if the game doesn’t live up to expectations. The Silent Hill HD Collection is one example as the collection was based off incomplete code and they couldn’t get it to work, along with a bunch of other problems.

Not to mention most remasters aren’t expensive. At least they’re affordable so that way you don’t have to spend much money.

    1. I can agree with you that a lot of people never experience the games that were released years ago, a lot of the remasters are good, although some are ehh, I heard the remastered version of the first Dishonored had framerate drops, and I also heard The SH HD Collection was bad because Konami gave the developers a unfinished code (also #FucKonami), There was a patch that fixed the stuff… for the PS3, I own a 360 and I heard the patch was canceled so buying the SH HD Collection for my 360 is, well, “worthless”.
